Description

Scenario:  In the past, a persistent desktop catalog was created using MCS.
The persistent desktop has been copied to a new Azure subscription.
A new Azure hosting connection has been added that permits browsing the resources in the new Azure subscription.
While attempting to create a new, non-MCS catalog through the Azure hosting unit, the persistent machines that were moved are not available for selection.

Resolution

  1. In the Azure dashboard, browse to the new resource group in the new subscription.
  2. Click "edit" to reveal the tags.  Delete the tags.

  1. Back in the Citrix Studio, using the MCS wizard, the machines that were copied from the old subscription will be visible and can be added to a catalog.

Problem Cause

When the machines were created by MCS, tags were created on the storage account. These tags need to be deleted so that the persistent machines will be visible in the MCS wizard.
The Azure tags might not be visible until you click "edit".

Issue/Introduction

When the machines are created by MCS, tags are created on the storage account. These tags are no longer needed since the new catalog is not an MCS catalog.  These tags however, indicate to the MCS wizard that these are part of an MCS catalog.  The tags need to be deleted so that the persistent machines will be selectable in the MCS wizard.

Additional Information

You might need to change Azure subscriptions and have moved / copied all the resources to your new subscription and added a hosting connection to your new subscription.
For non-persistent desktops and applications, new catalogs can be created from the existing images.
However, persistent machines created in Azure using MCS must be copied over to the new subscription and then added to a new, non-MCS catalog.
When the machines are created by MCS, tags are created on the storage account. These tags are no longer needed. These tags however, indicate to the MCS wizard that these are part of an MCS catalog.
The tags need to be deleted so that the persistent machines will be selectable in the MCS wizard.
