Description

Browser content redirection extension for Chrome version 5.3 update causes Chrome to open and immediately close.  This may also cause users to receive a temporary profile.

Resolution

Disable the Browser content redirection extension 5.3

  • If the extension is configured by domain GPO, disable the policy or block the extension using GPO.
  • For those not using GPO
  1. Remove the cached extension
    For scalability this can be done by IT by adding the following script in the user profile:
    • Chrome Browser:
      rmdir /S %1 %AppData%\"..\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\Extensions\hdppkjifljbdpckfajcmlblbchhledln"
    • Edge Browser:
      rmdir /S %1 %AppData%\"..\Local\Microsoft\Edge\User Data\Default\Extensions\hdppkjifljbdpckfajcmlblbchhledln"
  2. Repair the extension by navigating to: Customize and control google Chrome > Settings > Extensions> Repair (Browser Redirection Extension)
