Description
Scenario:
PVS target devices streaming a new version of a vDisk are caching to the server instead of to the cache drive on the target device.
Target devices streaming the original version of the vDisk work correctly.
Attempts to create or edit a file on the write cache are denied.
Inspecting the attributes of the drive, it is not write protected.
Files can be deleted from the write cache drive.
Formatting the write cache drive is successfull.
Resolution
Inspect the policies in effect and find any BitLocker policy that denies write access to "removable storage devices that are not protected by BitLocker". Remove or disable this directive for the target device that is being used to maintain the vDisk.
Problem Cause
During the process of maintaining the vDisk image, the write-cache is detected as a removable storage device. The Bitlocker directive denies all write requests to the drive.
Issue/Introduction
This BitLocker policy will detect the write cache as a removable device and marks the disk with deny write access. When the target device is booted, the deny-write policy prevents the PVS driver from using the drive as a write cache.
