Automatically launch the downloaded .ica files when using Chrome browser

Description

When you try to launch a published application or desktop from a browser by browsing to storefront or gateway URL, an ".ica" file is downloaded. You need to click the .ica file to launch the session instead of auto launch

Note -  In recent releases of Google Chrome this issue has been resolved and these steps shoud not  be necessary.

 

For Windows based client machines, you can follow the instructions below:

  1. Download ADMX template for Chrome browser
    2. Copy .ADMX files to C:\Windows\PolicyDefinitions folder and the relevant language specific ADML files to C:\Windows\PolicyDefinitions\xx-xx folder. 
  • For example, if you are using en-US language, copy the .adml files under "en-US" folder to C:\Windows\PolicyDefinitions\en-US folder.

3. Run gpedit.msc > navigate to Computer Configuration >Administrative Templates > Google>Google Chrome 
4. On the right-hand side, select 'List of file types that should be automatically opened on download' and click on policy setting

5. Select enabled and click on show. Define value as "ica"

6. Run gpupdate /force and relaunch chrome browser to access Storefront or gateway URL
7. Published apps/desktops will launch automatically instead of downloading .ica file

Note: This policy can be set either as computer or user setting

For MAC OS Client machines, you can follow the instructions below:

  1. Open Google Chrome and click on the three dots menu at the top right-hand corner.
  2. Select  Settings > Downloads (sidebar) > Click on the "Open certain file types automatically after downloading" menu and set it to open .ica file automatically after downloading.

Note: Depending on the version of Chrome, this option might be under a different menu. Please refer to google documentation for the version you are using to find the appropriate section where this setting is available.
