Description

Window content is not visible in some applications when using a GPU-enabled session on Windows 10. A portion of the application window is covered in black as shown on the screen captures below.

Resolution

VDA versions 2009 and newer include the latest version of the Citrix graphics adapter that supports this use case. The Citrix Indirect Display Driver (IDD) may be used by default depending on the GPU type. The VDA can also be configured to use this adapter explicitly. See CTX237608 for configuration details.

On 1912 LTSR VDAs the Citrix Display only Driver (DoD) may be used instead as a workaround. This would disable the GPU driver and it is only recommended for sessions where no applications that require GPU acceleration are in use.

Problem Cause

The Citrix graphics adapter in 1912 LTSR leverages specific Windows operating system APIs to capture the screen on the VDA. For security reasons, Microsoft designed these APIs to block the capture of contents in applications that make use of “window content protection.”
