Description

Event ID 7 appears in the Windows Event Viewer stating that, "ICA Connection request denied because the current user (user name) is not the owner of the session (session ID)"

Resolution

  • This behavior is traditionally not related to the configuration of the Citrix Environment, but is usually related to the SIDs of the User Accounts themselves.
  • Citrix recommends reaching out to any third-party Credential providers if available to assist.
    • Otherwise, Citrix recommends that the User SIDs be investigated and checked to see if there are any duplicate SIDs associated to the user objects in the Active Directory Domain.

If there are mismatched SIDs for the User, Citrix will supply whichever SID is returned by the Domain Infrastructure. If the Windows Operating System receives a different User SID than what Citrix provided, then this issue will occur.

Problem Cause

Event ID 7 is triggered for the following behaviors:
  • User SID Mismatch : When there is a SID mismatch while launching applications
  • Un-brokered access :  When trying launch a session or application using a custom ICA file fails
  • Ticket mismatch
  • Connection Error
Note: Ticket mismatch and Connection error are rare/unusual conditions to be seen.
  • The issue happens when users are attempting to launch multiple applications (from same client and user) before the first application launch is complete.
  • 1st application launch is required for session sharing. If users are clicking on a second application before the first one is launched, the second launch is getting denied.
    • A warning message is posted to the event log for informational purposes.
