Description

Beginning in October 2020, Citrix will ship specific new MPX/SDX appliances* with new Manufacturing builds, Citrix ADC MPX firmware version 11.1 Build 64.14 and SDX firmware versions 11.1 (Build 61.117 and Build 61.115). The impacted appliance models with the new build will ship once existing stock is exhausted, so customers may potentially see an earlier build on their MPX or SDX during the period of transition.  Customers will see these builds in both new purchases of the specific affected models and in RMA replacement of the specific affected models.

Note: Currently new appliances ship with ADC firmware 12.1. For MPX appliances, currently ship with firmware version 12.1 Build 62.25; For SDX appliances, currently ship with firmware version 12.1 Build 60.105

There will be a few changes listed below on this new build on both MPX and SDX (both perpetual and pooled hardware):

Citrix ADC MPX Changes with 11.1 Build 64.14:

Includes Intel Fortville NIC firmware 7.0**
Impact: customers cannot install any version earlier than 11.1 Build 64.14, 12.1 Build 56.x, or 13.0 Build 58.x.
Why: This is because the aforementioned versions contain the new Fortville driver which is intended for use with NIC firmware 7.0

Includes updated LOM version 4.61 (MPX 5900,8900 platform) or version 5.56 (MPX 15000, 15000-50G, 26000,26000-100G,26000-50S platforms) version.
Impact: These updates have LOM security fixes, as well as the serial number as the password

Updated password scheme for greater security
Impact: The new default password of the nsroot account is serial number of the appliance. The serial number is available at the back of the appliance. Citrix recommends that you change the password before staging the system for general network access. The serial number is needed for future login following a factory reset; thus, Citrix recommends to please keep a note of it.
For information about changing the password, see “Change the administrative password” section in this linkNote: this change complies with California law AB-1906

Citrix ADC SDX changes with 11.1 Build (61.117 and 61.115):

Does not include Intel Fortville NIC firmware 7.0
If Firmware 7.0 is required the following changes are necessary:

  1. VPX instances must be first upgraded to 11.1 Build 65.x, 12.1 Build 57.x, 13.0 Build 58.x or newer.
  2. Then, Single bundle must be upgraded to 11.1 Build 65.x, 12.1 Build 57.x, 13.0 Build 58.x or newer. For more information on upgrading to 7.0 Firmware on SDX, see this link.

Includes updated LOM version 4.61 (8900 platform) or version 5.56 (15000, 15000-50G, 26000, 26000-100G ,26000-50S platforms) version.
Impact: These updates have LOM security fixes, as well as the serial number as the password

Issue/Introduction

Beginning October 2020, Citrix will begin shipping Citrix MPX appliances and Citrix SDX appliances with a new build that uses a new default password. This new manufacturing build will become the oldest compatible baseline for certain models that ship with Intel Fortville NICs. Customers will see this build in newly purchased appliances and in appliances received as RMA replacements.

Additional Information

For more information about the Fortville MPX NIC firmware upgrade, please see Citrix Product Documentation here .

If a Citrix ADC appliance equipped with Fortville NIC firmware 7.0 is accidentally downgraded to a build older than 11.1 Build 64.14, 12.1 Build 56.x, or 13.0 Build 58.x, then use official documentation to upgrade to a newer, supported build. If no network access is available, then use article CTX121992: How to Start Citrix ADC Appliance with Different Kernel Version than One Installed on Appliance to switch back to the existing 11.1 Build 64.x kernel file or newer.
