Description

This article is created to help explain the readers on how top 10 processes report the average memory consumption.

Instructions

  • When looking into historical machine utilization on director and locating "Top 10 Processes", you might see average memory used as 0% most of the time :-
  • Note :- To go to historical utilization of machine - Login to Citrix director > Go to Filters > Machines > All machines > Multi-Session OS machines > Pick the machine of interest> View Historical Utilization > Select Time Period as “Last 24 Hours” > Scroll down to top 10 processes view and you can find the details of the application memory/CPU consumption specific to that machine for last 24 hours

  • Here is an example, how it is calculated :-

For example Machine has 128 GB of RAM – which is 1.28e+8 KB.

1 process at any given point of time is taking around 500 MB = 500000 KB.

What is 1% of 1.28e+8 KB ? – 1280000 KB = 1280 MB.

So technically for any process to take 1% of memory from a 128 GB RAM, it has to at least consume 1280 MB ..

Now we are talking about the average that means that process has to take 1280 MB for a consistent amount of time to show under director as part of average memory consumption.
