Provisioning Servers (PVS) entering licensing grace period after a license file change

  • After adding or swapping out new license files on the Citrix License Server, the Citrix Provisioning Services (PVS) deployment is in an unlicensed state or licensing grace period state.
Provisioning Server (PVS) license increments missing from recently allocated and download license files
  • On Dec 3, 2019, Citrix modified the specific license increments included in Citrix Virtual App and Desktop (CVAD) license files downloaded from the licensing center on Citrix.com.  The goal of this change was to simplify the license delivery to customers and reduce the overall number of license files a customer needs to manage.  The result of the licensing change (which occurred in the Citrix back office licensing systems) was the removal of legacy product licenses (such as StorageLink) and the removal of redundant or unnecessary PVS license increments in CVA and CVAD license files.  The intent was clean-up oriented, there was no targeted change in customer entitlement to use PVS with their CVAD solution.
  • Standard licenses allocated between 12/3/2019 and 01/10/2020 may have been missing the PVSD_STD_CCS INCREMENT line. That was re-added 01/10/2020. Customers can return and allocate licenses to fix unlicensed PVS servers. Standard customers allocating after 1/10/2020 are not affected.
  • Customers who allocate and download CVAD license files after Dec 3 will see these changes reflected in their license files.  If a customer was to compare a CVAD license file from before the change to one after the change they will notice the following license increments have been removed.  Below is an example of how a Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktop customer’s license files were changed:
Sample: Citrix Virtual Apps & Desktops Premium – Concurrent

License files allocated before Dec 3, 2019 include these license increments in a single file allocation and download:

INCREMENT XDT_PLT_CCS
INCREMENT MPS_PLT_CCU
INCREMENT XDS_PLT_CCS
INCREMENT CEHV_ENT_CCS
INCREMENT PVSD_STD_CCS
INCREMENT CESEP_ENT_CCU
INCREMENT PVS_STD_CCS

License files allocated after Dec 3, 2019 include only a single increment
INCREMENT XDT_PLT_CCS

These were removed in the change

INCREMENT MPS_PLT_CCU   #additional Citrix Virtual Apps licenses for legacy support, removed
INCREMENT CEHV_ENT_CCS #deprecated StorageLink licenses, product end of life
INCREMENT CESEP_ENT_CCU #deprecated EdgeSight licenses, product end of life
INCREMENT PVSD_STD_CCS #PVS stand-alone datacenter licenses, removed as redundant
INCREMENT PVS_STD_CCS #PVS stand-alone desktop licenses, removed as redundant

Resolution

A new line item (PVSD_STD_CCS) was added back to Premium (Platinum) and Advanced (Enterprise) on January 17, 2020.
Return your current license file and allocate a new license file using the steps outlined in Return a license file and then allocate the license file again using the steps outlined in Allocate a license file
