Description

Imaging Wizard fails with “ Failed to write disk” message after it finishes.

The Imaging Wizard logs show:

Failed to write disk \\.\PhysicalDrive1. Access is denied. (0x00000005)

Resolution

1. Attach an extra disk on the master VM.
2. Format disk and give it a drive letter
3. Run P2PVS, selecting option from "This Machine" to "Virtual Hard Disk v2", which is the extra disk.
4. On the Source and Destination volumes page click Next.
5. Browse to the newly attached disk drive letter, select it and click Next.
6. Click convert.
7. A vhd/vhdx image will be created and stored in the attached disk.
8. After the wizard finishes, go to the extra disk drive, copy the vhd/vhdx and upload it to the vDisk store.
9. In the PVS console, import the vDisk.
10. Assign the vDisk to targets.

Problem Cause

Third party software or configuration incompatibility.

If the wizard works on a vanilla image but not on the previously prepared corporate image, there is something installed/configured on the image that preventing PVS from accessing the drive.
