Description

Error occurred when try to start “Citrix Personal vDisk” by “CtxPvd.exe -s inventory” command after upgrade VDA version on Pvd Master Image.

Steps reproduce the issue:

  1. Install VDA 7.6.300 on Windows 7 O/S
  2. Upgrade VDA to 7.15 by using “XenApp_and_XenDesktop_7_15.iso”
  3. Observe – cannot display “” shortcut on Start menu
  4. Try to manually start Pvd inventory by below command: Cd C:\Program Files\Citrix\personal vDisk\bin CtxPvd.exe -s inventory
  5. Observe there is an error and Pvd inventory cannot started successful.

Resolution

As a workaround:

  1. Prior to upgrading 7.6.300 to 7.15, export the pvd registry key HKLM\Software\Citrix\personal vDisk.
  2. Perform the upgrade to 7.15 but don't hit finish (don't reboot).
  3. Import the saved pvd reg settings.
  4. Add the DWORD registry setting HKLM\Software\Citrix\personal vDisk\Config\LayerCreationMode and set to 0.
  5. Delete registry setting HKLM\Software\Citrix\personal vDisk\Status\DriverVersion.
  6. Hit finish to force the reboot.
  7. After reboot the update pvd short cut is still missing but the pvd service no longer crashes and the update inventory works.
