Description

This article explains how to change from NIC adapter e1000 to VMXNET3 for PVS streamed VMs.

Instructions

1. Perform a Reverse Image to the vDisks that will be streamed to the VMs with VMXNET3 NIC. If possible, use the original VM that was used to create the vDisk (sometimes called the Master VM) to Reverse Image. To perform the Reverse Image process please refer to this article https://support.citrix.com/article/CTX202159.

2. On the Reversed Image uninstall the PVS Target Device Software, uninstall VMWare Tools, remove the E1000 NIC, clean any Ghost NICS, then add the VMXNet3 NIC, Install VMWare Tools back and Install the PVS Target Device Software. Follow these steps in the same order mentioned.

3. Next run the Imaging Wizard again to re-capture the vDisk with the new NIC. To perform the Imaging process, refer to this article https://support.citrix.com/article/CTX125740.

4. After having the new vDisk with the VMXNET3 NIC, re-create new VMs with the new vDisk using the Stream VM Setup Wizard (or XenDesktop Setup Wizard if using XenDesktop) from the PVS console. To create the new VMs from the PVS console you will need to have a template VM with the VMXNET3 NIC assigned already.

Another way is to create a new vDisk from scratch from a VM that has been created with the VMXNET3 NIC adapter. Then you just need to create new VMs with the new vDisk using the Stream VM Setup Wizard (or XenDesktop Setup Wizard) from the PVS console. For this you also will need to have a template VM with the VMXNET3 NIC assigned.
