Description

NetScaler SD-WAN 10.0 has been designed to accommodate large scale deployments, with the capability of supporting up to 2500 sites. The partial site upgrade feature is one enhancement that will accommodate such large scale deployments.
This feature allows administrators to stage upgrades at specific sites without the need to upgrade the entire infrastructure. This will allow time to test the stability before migrating the entire environment.

Requirements:

  • Applicable only to existing / active SD-WAN deployments using R10.0 or newer software.
  • Must use same Major version number as active software (e.g. R10.0 active environment, partial site upgrade of R10.1).
  • Configuration of the Active and Partially upgraded sites must be identical on the MCN and Branch Sites.
  • In HA sites, disable the service on the Standby unit before LCM on Primary appliance.

Instructions

1. Start with the MCN:
  • Go through Change Management with new software (e.g. 10.1) & active config, stage to all SD-WAN devices, but stop at Activate Staged. (Active Staged is when you want the entire network to accept the new software.)
2. On RCN and Client nodes:
  • For non-HA nodes
    • Access the web interface of each client or RCN node
    • Access Local Change Management
    • Activate Staged
  • For HA nodes
    • Access the web interface of each client or RCN node
    • On the Standby unit - disable service
    • On the Primary unit:
      • Local Change Management
      • Activate Staged
    • Go back to the Standby unit:
      • Local Change Management
      • Activate Staged
    • Enable Standby unit’s service
3. On MCN (proceed with upgrading entire network to new code)
  • Change Management, complete Activate Staged.
