Question:

What is difference between XenMobile MDM edition Licenses and Enterprise Edition Licenses?

Answer:

XenMobile MDM Edition

Citrix XenMobile MDM edition is licensed under a per-user or per-device model. User licensing is based on how many unique users have registered devices on the administrative device management server. Device licensing is based on how many unique devices are registered on the administrative device management server. XenMobile MDM edition can be sold under three consumption options:

• Perpetual licensing entitles the user to consume the product in perpetuity (forever).

• Annual licensing entitles the user to consume the product on an annual basis only.

Product consumed under the annual model is valid for 12 months from point of purchase after which the license will expire and the administrative management server will no longer be able to control the registered devices. Customers may purchase a new XenMobile annual license prior to the expiration date to assure access to their XenMobile environment will continue to function uninterrupted. Co-termination is not supported for XenMobile annual licenses – meaning Citrix will not support synchronization of the expiration dates for XenMobile annual licenses, either individually or in combination with XenMobile perpetual licenses. Annual licenses are good for 12 months from the date of purchase. This cannot be modified to provide 12 months from the date of the expiration associated with any existing annual licenses.

• Hosted Cloud-based Service entitles the purchased number of users or devices to consume the hosted service for 12 months from point of purchase after which the service will expire and administrators will no longer be entitled to access the administrative device management server.

XenMobile Enterprise Edition

XenMobile Enterprise edition is licensed under a per-user model only. XenMobile Enterprise edition can be sold under two consumption options:

• Perpetual licensing entitles the user to consume the product in perpetuity (forever).

• Annual licensing entitles the user to consume the product on an annual basis only.

Product consumed under the annual model is valid for 12 months from point of purchase after which the license will expire and the administrative management server will no longer be able to control the registered devices. Additionally, the licenses will cease to support valid connections to the XenMobile environment. Customers may purchase a new XenMobile annual license prior to the expiration date to assure access to their XenMobile environment will continue to function uninterrupted. Co-termination is not supported for XenMobile annual licenses – meaning Citrix will not support

Question:

What are things to know with respect to impact of XenMobile Licensing?

Answer:

  • No support to .CRT legacy license files. Uses only .lic license file.
  • Customers upgrading from the earlier XenMobile versions must have the license in a remote server.
  • XenMobile does not enforce license limits.
  • Grace Period of 30 days.
  • When a Device Manager license expires, all device management functionality becomes unavailable.

We have two types of licenses:  a)user based and b)device based license

  • The user based license are issued per user hence if an user enrolls more than one device he will be issued only one license.

e.g  user a enrolled 4 devices - license issue 1

  • The device based license are issued per device hence if a user enrolls more than one device he will be issued as many licenses as the number of enrolled device  .

e.g  user enrolled 4 devices - license issued 4

Question:

When licenses will be freed?

Answer:

In case of device based licenses - Every enrolled device will consume a license which will be freed when device is deleted from XenMobile console simmillarly when user is deleted.

Question:

When is license issued to a device?

Answer:

Once the device is enrolled the license is issued .

Question:

Is the license issued to the DEP even when they are not enrolled?

Answer:

The DEP devices are pre-populated under the devices tab and are greyed out, at this time they donot consume any license since the devices are not enrolled.

To verify whether the device is enrolled on the console if it is showing green or greyed out (green means enrolled). The DEP enrolled devices might continue to show as device enrollment programme user until unless you have authenticated with the XenMobile.

The process of enrollment for DEP is different as it happens during the initial setup of the device.

If under DEP settings the "require credentials for device enrollment" is disabled it will skip requesting for username and password at the time of enrollment, however the device will still be enrolled. On the XenMobile console  the device will show as "DEP user" in green which means it is enrolled. When the user authenticates with SecureHub, you will be able to see the username in the device tab of XenMobile console.
