The first step when troubleshooting issues that occurred during the installation, configuration, or the product usage phase of the Citrix SCOM MP products is to verify the SCOM MP Agent product log files.
The information in the SCOM MP Agent log files might be insufficient to troubleshoot certain issues. You might not be able to zero in on the issue even with additional customer description.
The next step is to collect more detailed support information regarding the issue. To do this, have the customer set product logging in the SCOM MP Agent to be more detailed and frequent. You can set the log level depending on the logging mechanism supported in the SCOM MP Agent.
The ERROR log level records high-level information about major product issues. The DEBUG level records events in a more granular way and provides the most detailed amount of information about the product behavior.
NOTE: Logging with the DEBUG log level might impact the performance of the SCOM MP products. So, it is recommended that this log level be used only during the troubleshooting phase. Once the issue is resolved, set the log level back to the default (ERROR).
You can set additional product logging by modifying the log level registry key.
Follow the steps below to set the log level in SCOM MP Agents listed in the table:
Log in to the server where the SCOM MP agent is installed.
Open the Registry Editor and navigate to the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Comtrade\<SCOM MP Agent>
Change the »LogLevel« parameter to an appropriate value. Available log levels are ERROR, WARN, INFO, or DEBUG.
There is no need to restart the service after you change the log level. The change is picked up automatically after 10 seconds.
By default, the log files are located at %ProgramData%\Citrix\SCOM MP Agent\logs.
Use the steps above to set the product log level in the following SCOM MP products:
SCOM MP | Registry Key | Default log files location |
MPXAXD | HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Comtrade\XenDesktop MP Agent | %ProgramData%\Citrix\XenDesktop MP Agent\logs |
MPSF | HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Comtrade\StoreFront MP Agent | %ProgramData%\Citrix\StoreFront MP Agent\logs |
MPSHF | HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Comtrade\ShareFile MP Agent | %ProgramData%\Citrix\ShareFile MP Agent\logs |
MPXM | HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Comtrade\XenMobile MP Agent | %ProgramData%\Citrix\XenMobile MP Agent\logs |
In certain SCOM MP Agents, logging cannot be enabled or set using registry key. Here, you can set the log level in the SCOM MP Agent configuration (<SCOM MP Agent>_config.ini) file, follow the steps below:
Log in to the server where the SCOM MP Agent is installed.
Navigate to the %ProgramData%\Citrix\SCOM MP Agent folder.
Open the mp_config.ini file, and set the »trace_reporting« parameter to an appropriate value.
Restart the MP Agent service to log as per the new level.
By default, the log file is available as %ProgramData%\Citrix\XenApp MP Agent\<SCOM MP Agent>.log.
SCOM MP | Configuration file | Default log file |
MPXA | %ProgramData%\Citrix\XenApp MP Agent\xamp_config.ini | %ProgramData%\Citrix\XenApp MP Agent\xamp.log |
MPPVS | %ProgramData%\Citrix\Provisioning Services MP Agent\mppvs_config.ini | %ProgramData%\Citrix\Provisioning Services MP Agent\mppvs_agt.log |
MPWI | %ProgramData%\Citrix\Provisioning Services MP Agent\mpwi_config.ini | %ProgramData%\ComTrade\Web Interface MP Agent\mpwi_agt.log |
MPXS | %ProgramData%\ComTrade\XenServer MP Agent\xsmp_config.ini | %ProgramData%\ComTrade\XenServer MP Agent\xsmp.log |
Follow the steps below to set the log level for MPXAXD Machine Agent:
Log in to the proxy node where the MPXAXD Machine Agent is installed.
Navigate to the %ProgramData%\Citrix\XenDesktop MP Machine Agent folder.
Open the MPXAXDMachineMonitorSvc.exe.config file and set the level value parameter to an appropriate value. The default value is ERROR. Other available values are ERROR, INFO, and DEBUG.
Restart the MPXAXD Machine agent service to log as per the new level.
By default, the log files are available as %ProgramData%\Citrix\XenDesktop MP Machine Agent\logs\MachineAgent.log.
Follow the steps below to set the log level for the MPNS Agent:
Activate the debug mode of the MPNS Agent service by running the command:
MPNSTest.exe /pi /sc LoggingLevel /c 0 /f
In the SCOM console, navigate to Authoring > Management Pack Objects > Object Discoveries.
Change the scope and filter for Citrix NetScaler Appliance (v10.x) Discovery and/or Citrix NetScaler Appliance (v9.x) Discovery, depending on the version of your NetScaler devices.
Override the discovery to enable debug mode and more frequent logging.
The service should not be restarted after you change the log level. The service starts logging at the new level after it has run in debug mode for 30 minutes. By default, the log files are located at %ProgramData%\Citrix\NetScaler MP Agent.
