Citrix Director has been providing Resource Utilization data. Now with Citrix Director 7.14, we provide Disk Usage information as well! You can now monitor the real time and historical monitoring of I/O operations per second and Disk Latency Usages of Server and Desktop OS VDAs.

This feature requires Delivery Controller(s) and VDA version 7.14 or later.

Disk Usage in Trends Resource Utilization Panel

The disk usage in the resource utilization tab of the trends page is now extended to show the IOPS and Disk Latency usage for a selected delivery group. You can select the graph you want to view: CPU, memory, IOPS or Disk Latency along with peak concurrent sessions graph.

The IOPS and latency graphs will show the average IOPS and disk latency consumption respectively for regular intervals over selected time and baseline for all the delivery groups or specific delivery group. It is to be noted that IOPS and Disk Latency graphs are displayed for the last 24 hours, last month and last year time periods.

Also the table shown below the charts will now consist of disk usage details along with the resource utilization details, the columns are displayed according to the graphs selected for display.

You can also access Disk usage data in the machine resource utilization panel. We have added a drop down with the options: “IOPS” and “Disk Latency” to view the real time IOPS and Disk Latency Usage.

In the machine details page you can now view the disk usage information! Similar to the trends resource utilization page, we have added the option to allow the selection of the graph that you want to view, for the specific time period. IOPS and Disk Latency are displayed for the last month, last year and the last 24 hours time periods.

Disk Usage in Resource Monitoring

We have made changes to the policy of resource monitoring to include the IOPS and Latency Data along with CPU and Memory data. This is enabled by default.

If you are not interested in monitoring either disk data for a specific scope (specific delivery group, Organizational unit, etc.), it is recommended to disable the policy.

Optional Configurations:

By enabling the below settings there would be more accuracy in the Process Utilization data. The configurations which can be enabled are:

EnableMinuteLevelGranularityProcessUtilization

EnableDayLevelGranularityProcessUtilization

These Configurations can be enabled from the Monitoring Powershell cmdlet: Set-MonitorConfiguration

Group policy. If you are not interested in monitoring the Resource Data or Process Data, either or both can be turned off using the group policy.

Scalability

IOPS and disk latency data is enabled by default. The data retention values are as follows:

IOPS and disk latency is pushed to the database from each VDA at 1 hour interval.

With the data retention settings as above, approximately 276 KB of disk space is required to store the CPU, memory, IOPS and disk latency data for one VDA over a period of one year.
