This article describes how to use VPX check-in/check-out licenses for auto-provisioning of VPX in NSX environment.
To support the dynamic nature of VMware NSX environment where VMs are provisioned on demand and de-provisioned on demand MAS licensing capabilities and VPX check-in/check out capabilities can be leveraged.
MAS acts as a local licensing server and makes the repository of VPX licenses. MAS allows VPX instances that are coming dynamically on NSX to check-out the licenses and check-in back when they are getting de-provisioned. This way MAS supports the dynamic nature of NSX and enables the reuse of licenses.
Perform the below operations to use the check-in/check-out licenses for auto provisioning of VPX in NSX.
VPX license files are obtained and stored in local hard disk or VPX access codes are obtained.
Step 1: Login to MAS and go to Networks > Licenses > select Upload licenses file from a local computer if you have license file or select Use license access code if you have access codes. Below steps are shown for “upload license files from a local computer”.
Step 2: Click Browse button and upload the license file and click Finish button.
Step 3: Verify the entry of the license file upload and “VPX licenses” appear under licenses
Step 4: Click on the VPX licenses to see the available and used VPX licenses.
When this service package is used in NSX to provision a VPX, VPX will know that the MAS is the license server and will check-out the license specified in the service package, when it gets de-provisioned it checks back the license to MAS.
