Description
When running the XenDesktop Setup Wizard, it can fail with the following error:
"cannot connect to the hypervisor at <ADDRESS> object reference not set to an instance of an object"
The string <ADDRESS> will contain the actual URL of the vCenter Server.
This issue can appear when the DataCenter name on the VMWare side has a comma character anywhere in the name.
For example notice the use of the comma character in the following screenshot:
Resolution
As a possible workaround the Streamed VM Setup Wizard can be used to create the Target Devices, which would then be imported through Citrix Studio.
This workaround is only possible if the Target Devices
will not have Personal vDisk enabled. If Personal vDisk will be used, please use the solution below.
To solve the issue perform the following steps:
- Remove the comma from the DataCenter name
- Create a new Host Connection and Resources on XenDesktop
- Run the XenDesktop Setup Wizard and select the new XenDesktop Resources when prompted
Problem Cause
Issue is due to the use of a Comma in the DataCenter name. This causes the DataCenter name to be truncated because the resources enumerated from XenDesktop are contained in a "comma delimited string".
Issue/Introduction
The XenDesktop Setup Wizard fails when attempting to enumerate templates on a vSphere environment that has a comma character in the DataCenter name.
