Description

You may find that AppSense is not personalizing applications properly or otherwise not functioning.  Here are the directions for installing AppSense and/or WebSense in a layer,

Resolution

  1. Setup your default group in the AppSense management console with the agents you want installed.
  2. Install the CCA in the Packaging MAchine (Install Machine) for the new App Layer. Once the CCA is installed it will automatically be put in the default group and the agents will be installed that you've specified. Assuming of course you've set them up for automatic installation. Either way, get your agents installed.
  3. In the App Layer, set this reg key:
    Registry Key: HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\unifltr
    Value Name: ForceFullPathOnImageLoad
    Value Type: REG_DWORD
    Value Data: 1
  4. Stop the Appsense Services including the watchdog service
  5. Generalize the CCA by deleting the group id and machine id reg keys from the Communications agent registry location.
    Registry Key: HKLM\Software\Appsense Technologies\Communications Agent
    Value Names: MachineID, GroupID
Do not start up the AppSense services before finalizing the app layer.  They will automatically start when Windows boots, and will regenerate the MachineID and GroupID keys.  This also means you will need to re-generalize the CCA whenever you edit the layer, by deleting those two keys again.
