Description

Your PVS Target Devices are configured for KMS licensing, and after activating the first PVS Target device, activation of other PVS Target Devices devices fail. When you look more closely at the Target Devices you find that the devices all share the same CMID. This means that when building the Platform Layer that includes the PVS software, KMS was not rearmed just before you shut down the Packaging Machine.

Resolution

When using KMS licensing, PVS requires each target device to have a unique CMID. For more about this, see the Citrix article, Demystifying KMS and Provisioning Services.

To fix this issue:

  1. Add a new version to the Platform Layer that you use for publishing Layered Images to PVS.

  2. Just before you shut down the Packaging Machine, use this command to verify that the Rearm count on the OS is > 0:
    slmgr /dlv

  3. Once you've confirmed that you have licenses, rearm KMS:
    slmgr /rearm

  4. When you run Shutdown for Finalize to verify the Layer, if there are any outstanding operations that have yet to complete, allow them to finish, and repeat steps #2 and #3 to rearm KMS yet again.

  5. Double-click the Shutdown For Finalize icon again to shut down the Packaging Machine.
