Description
The XenDesktop Setup Wizard might fail when creating Targets on a Hyper-V Environment under the following Scenarios:
- The vDisk is set to any kind of Write Cache that includes a Local Hard disk
- BDM Partition is selected as the Boot method for the Targets
The XenDesktop Setup Wizard might present the following errors:
- Cannot create BDM Partition for device <DEVICE_NAME>
- Object Reference not set to an instance of an object
Resolution
Provide Write Access to the Storage where the Targets will be created.
This is the storage defined in the selected Resources in the XenDesktop Host Connection
Note:
If the Storage defined in the XenDesktop Host connection is Local Storage, then access need to be provided to the Administrative Share for the Volume in the Local Storage
For example if the Folder where the Targets will be created is E:\VirtualMachines in the Hyper-V host, then PVS must have access to the E$ Administrative Share of the Hyper-V Host.
Problem Cause
This issue can happen if the PVS Server does not have Write Access to the Storage where the Targets are being created.
As part of the process of creating the Targets, PVS needs to perform the following tasks:
- Verify that the folder where the Virtual Machine and Local Hard Disk for Write Cache or BDM will be created actually exists and is writable
- In case of Targets with BDM Partition, PVS will need to copy the BDM vDisk to the Storage
If the PVS Server does not have Write Access to the storage, the XenDesktop Setup Wizard process will fail.
