Description
After an unexpected shutdown or restart, your XenServer host might experience of the following issues:
- Hosts with more than 100 days uptime and local storage attached when rebooted can't connect to the local storage.
- The host does not come out of maintenance mode.
- When you try to exit the server from maintenance mode, you receive the error "Server Still Booting".
Resolution
After an unexpected shutdown or reboot, it can take a long time for the XenServer host to restart for the following reasons:
- Most probable reason for this behavior is that fsck (Filesystem Check) is running on the storage. For larger local storage, fsck takes time to complete the process. After the process is complete, the server exits maintenance mode. You can verify this from the logs (/var/log/xensource.log, /var/log/SMLog).
- Wait until the fsck process completes. The toolstack then mounts the local storage SR and then come out of maintenance mode.
- There might be underlying storage issues.
- The host might not be able to communicate to master host of the pool.
- The start up might also be waiting for tasks to finish. You can look for pending tasks by running "xe task-list" on the host.
