Description

When installing software in private mode it takes a very long time.

  • Booting devices in Standard Mode works as expected
  • Any maintenance version is very slow
  • Best practices are put in place with Large send offload disabled on the target and PVS server and disabled spanning tree on the switch
  • vDisk is saved on local storage to the PVS server
  • PVS server and targets are on the same subnet

Resolution

Ensure the NIC on both the PVS servers and the target devices are using VMXNet3.

Problem Cause

PVS server was configured to use the E1000 NIC while the target devices were using VMXNet3

Issue/Introduction

The target device experiences poor performance and has a high number of retries on the vdisk when booting to a maintenance or private version of the vdisk.

Additional Information

Ensure Provisioning Services 7.6 Cumulative Update 1 for Target Device x64 is installed.
