Description
Deleting a vDisk version does not delete the version's physical file.
Resolution
Solution is to avoid the practice of performing the "Power Off" or "Reset" power actions on the Hypervisor and instead perform a graceful power action of the Guest Operating System of the Target.
The graceful shutdown can be accomplished either from within the Guest Operating System on the Target or by selecting the correct Power Action from the Hypervisor to send a graceful shutdown message to the Guest Operating System on the Target.
Problem Cause
Issue is caused by ungraceful Power Actions done on the Hypervisor.
When a Target is Powered Off or Reset ungracefully at the Hypervisor, PVS will not delete the lock inside the LOK file for that specific version.
Issue can also happen to physical targets if there's an ungraceful Shutdown, such as a Power Failure.
This behavior is by design.
Issue/Introduction
When deleting a vDisk version from the PVS Console or MCLI, the physical AVHD or AVHDX file is not deleted.
