Description

Streamed VM Setup Wizard fails to create VMs when specifying an ESX datacenter as the hypervisor.

The wizard completes but reports 0 of 5 VMs created.  A CDF trace during the failure will report an exception in PVS_Dll_HypervisorPlatform - "the resource vim.dvs.DistributedVirtualPort is not available". Using the vCenter client you can watch the host log report a Distributed vSwitch error for each VM attempted to be created.

Resolution

Refer to the article - Adding a virtual machine to a DVPortGroup in the vSphere Client fails with the error: No free port is available in DVportgroup PortGroupName (1035819) when all vEthernet Ports are exhausted for the DVPortGroup.

Problem Cause

When using a distributed vSwitch you exhaust available vEthernet ports for your DVPortGroup.
