Description

When you open a Secure Shell (SSH) connection or a serial console connection to the Service Virtual Machine (SVM) with a non-nsroot user, which was created in the SVM GUI, the following error message appears:
“pam_unix: pam_sm_authenticate: UNIX authentication refused”

Resolution

This is an expected behavior. Currently, only root/nsroot are the shell users on SVM. This limitation is by design.

Problem Cause

This issue occurs because these users are created only for GUI access.
