Description

This article describes how to configure the management IP address for the Service Virtual Machine (SVM) on the 0/1 interface of a CloudBridge 2000, 3000, 4000, or 5000 appliance using the Serial Console method.

Background

You are expected to complete the initial configuration for the CloudBridge appliance by using a direct connection to the default IP address 192.168.100.1 on the 0/1 interface. However, you can use the Serial Console method as an alternative method, where 0/1 interface is not accessible.

Requirements

  • Serial Console access to the CloudBridge appliance

  • SVM and XenServer credentials

Instructions

To configure management IP address for the SVM, complete the following procedure:

  1. Connect a Serial Null Modem Cable to the Serial COM Port of a CloudBridge 2000 or 3000 appliance.

  2. Use the Serial COM Port on a computer running appropriate software to connect to the serial port, such as Microsoft HyperTerminal with settings 9600,N,8,1,p.

  3. From the HyperTerminal output, press Enter. The terminal screen displays the Logon prompt.
Note: You might have to press Enter two or three times, depending on which terminal program you are using.

  4. At the netsclaer-sdx login: prompt, log on to the appliance with the default credentials (nsroot/nsroot).

  5. At the [nsroot@netscaler-sdx ~]$ prompt, run the following command to open the shell prompt of the appliance:
    ssh 169.254.0.10

  6. Log on to the shell prompt of the appliance with the default credentials (root/nsroot).

  7. At the root@ns prompt, run the following command to open the Management Service Initial Network Address Configuration menu:
    networkconfig

Note: Depending on the application used, you might have trouble accessing this menu. If so, try another application (for example, Putty.exe).

  8. Select option 1 to specify a new SVM IP address and press Enter.

  9. Select option 2 to specify a new SVM netmask and press Enter.

  12. From the root@ns prompt, run the following command to restart the appliance:
    reboot

After the SVM restart, you can open the SVM GUI by using the newly configured IP address.

For a CloudBridge 2000 or 3000, you can follow the procedure outlined in eDocs to complete the initial configuration: CloudBridge 2000 and 3000 Appliances – Configuring the CloudBridge Appliance.

For a CloudBridge 4000 or 5000, you can follow the procedure outlined in eDocs to complete the initial configuration: CloudBridge 4000 and 5000 Appliances – Provisioning Instances by Using the Configuration Wizard.
