Description

When starting Provisioning Services Console, the following error appears:
“Critical Error: Unable to contact the database server. Ensure Provisioning Services is configured correctly”.

Background

After running the Configuration Wizard and configuring a user account for the Provisioning Services, when you attempt to start the Provisioning Services Console and connect to a server, the following error message appears:

Resolution

Configure the Domain with Pre-Windows 2000 name instead of the FQDN.

In the following example, Pre-Windows 2000 name for the domain is mydomain instead of mydomain.local.

Problem Cause

The behavior appears when the Stream and Soap services are configured to run under a user account and the Domain is configured with the FQDN.

Note: There have been reports of same behavior when using a Network service account instead of a user account.
