XenDesktop 7.0 Application launch fails with the following error:
"Error: App-V Server Sync Failed."
The packages published to the user, initiating this Sync operation are downloaded on the App-V client machine. This operation can be manual or at every user logon or executed periodically.
Citrix XenDesktop 7.0, as part of App-V integration, uses PowerShell cmdlet of App-V client to download the App-V packages and then start App-V 5.0 virtual applications in these packages using Citrix infrastructure.
Citrix component (CtxAppVLauncher.exe) checks for the availability of the package (containing application being launched) on the Virtual Delivery Agent (VDA) machine. If the package is not synced, the CtxAppVLauncher.exe calls PowerShell cmdlet provided of App-V client to sync/download the given package.
The App-V Publishing Server settings on App-V client control the package sync to occur either during User Logon (LogonRefresh) or periodically (IntervalRefresh). See App-V 5.0 documentation for more details on these settings.
If the package is not available on the machine, the CtxAppVLauncher.exe issues a Sync command on behalf of the launching user on the end-client machine.
Note: The Sync operation issued by CtxAppVLauncher.exe might fail if LogonRefresh or IntervalRefresh occurs simultaneously on the background. During such a failure, the CtxAppVLauncher.exe shows the following error:
Error: "Cannot start Mozilla Firefox: App-V server sync failed"
This error is observed when the user attempts to start an application (App-V) on a VDA machine, where App-V packages are not synced earlier. Application launch might fail with the preceding error.
Restart the application from Citrix Receiver after a while.
Sync operations issued by App-V client typically complete in couple of minutes. Hence, application launch is successful after a while of the error message.
If the problem persists, see App-V 5.0 Troubleshooting Guide or contact your App-V Administrator.
