Description

A NetScaler MPX appliance is showing the correct version number in the Graphical User Interface (GUI), but the LCD display and the output of show hardware command displays incorrect model number.

Several NetScaler MPX appliances are sold as the same base platform, and it is the license that determines which features are unlocked.

User-added image

After installing the hardware license file, the appliance must report the updated information. For example, from the NetScaler MPX 10500 to MPX 15500.

However, the LCD display and the show hardware commands report the wrong model number:

show hardware
Platform: NSMPX-10500 8*CPU+2*E1K+8*E1K+2*IX+8*CVM 1620 760100

Resolution

This behavior is by design.

Problem Cause

The LCD display and the output from the show hardware command query the BIOS of the NetScaler appliance. The license file which unlocks the higher hardware model number is read after the BIOS. But, the GUI queries the license.log file and therefore it displays the correct hardware model.
