This article describes how to make Web Proxy Auto Discovery work with Access Gateway Enterprise Edition appliance.
Some environments use Web Proxy Auto Discovery (WPAD). When connected to Access Gateway Enterprise Edition appliance, administrators might find that the network traffic is directed to default gateway instead of the proxy server.
WPAD uses several methods. The primary method is a DHCP broadcast, where option 252 is provided to the user. If this fails, the client attempts to use DNS to lookup WPAD.
Because the DHCP protocol must work correctly before you configure the DHCP clients, the DHCP server and DHCP client must be connected to the same network link. In larger networks, this is not practical.
DHCP broadcasts are dropped by Access Gateway Enterprise Edition by design. DNS is not dropped and can be used to successfully use WPAD.
