Description

When trying to connect to SCVMM to enumerate templates for Provisioning Services, the following error message appears:

“Cannot connect to the HyperVisor at (IP address of Hyper-V). Object reference not set to an instance of an object.”

Resolution

To resolve the issue, complete the following steps:

  1. Ensure that the SCVMM console is installed locally on the Provisioning Services servers.

  2. When creating the Template, you must select Customization not Required.


Problem Cause

This error can appear when the SCVMM Console is not installed on the PVS Server and also if, while selecting the template in SCVMM, “Customization Not Required” option is not selected. This results in the template not being visible to the Provisioning Services server.
