Choppy video in a XenDesktop Virtual Machine on the Independent Computing Architecture (ICA) session, when it is hosted on VMware Hypervisor.

Background

While playing a video through Windows media player on a XenDesktop ICA session, the video looks choppy.

Resolution

  1. Login to the VMware V-sphere client.

  2. Select the specific XenDesktop Virtual Machine which displays a choppy video.

  3. Right-click on the Virtual Machine and click properties.

  4. Select the Video card option and enter the value of Video RAM as 128MB, as displayed in the following screen shot:

  5. Also enable the HDX policy for “Windows Media Redirection”, as displayed in the following screen shot:
