When installing the XenDesktop 5.6 Feature Pack 1 Virtual Desktop Agent software on a clean virtual machine that has had no previous Virtual Desktop Agent (VDA) software installed, option for configuring the VDA software does not appear, such as controller location and the TCP/IP port. Furthermore, the software appears as Citrix Virtual Desktop Core Services under Programs and Features (Add/Remove Programs) and no option is provided to reconfigure the software.
To resolve this issue, complete the following steps:
Install any previous 5.6 version of the VDA software from the original 5.6 ISO image first, before installing the 5.6 Feature Pack 1 update or the 5.6.200 rollup package.
If the original 5.6 ISO image is not available, download the Delivery Controller and Additional Components package listed as the first option under Web Packages (5.6 Feature Pack 1 download page) or Components (5.6 download page).
After the installation completes, install the update.
Citrix Virtual Desktop Agent and Citrix Virtual Desktop Core Services appear in Programs and Features (Add/Remove Programs). The Virtual Desktop Agent appears with a Change option and shows as version 5.6, as displayed in the following screen shot:
Note: If the version displayed is 5.5.100, it is acceptable because 5.5.100 and 5.6 VDA software packages are the same.
Virtual Desktop Agent Core Services appears as version 5.6.100.56141 for 5.6 Feature Pack 1 or version 5.6.200.9, as displayed in the following screen shots:
5.6 Feature Pack 1
5.6.200
This issue appears when the VDA software is installed using the Virtual Desktop Agent Update software package available under the Downloads page on www.citrix.com:
Select XenDesktop > XenDesktop 5.6 Feature Pack 1 (your edition) > Custom Downloads and select Virtual Desktop Agent Update:
This can also happen when the Rollup Package 5.6.200 is installed by itself. Access this Rollup Package from the following Knowledge Center articles for x64 and x86 respectively:
Note: This software is an update to any existing VDA software, 5.0 or later, and is not meant to be installed as standalone software.
This software installation package is named XdsAgent_x86.MSI (for 32-bit systems) or XdsAgent_x64.MSI (for 64-bit systems):
