Description

Provisioning Services Target Device Software might fail during the installation with the following error:

When you click OK, the following error appears:

Reviewing the Event Viewer of the server displays the following errors:

“Product: Citrix Provisioning Services Target Device x64 -- Error 1722.There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your support personnel or package vendor. Action InstallAssembly.27BD318D_9B6C_4D08_93FF_86DA14FF681B, location: C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v2.0.50727\InstallUtil.exe, command: /s /LogToConsole=false "C:\Program Files\Citrix\Provisioning Services\XipClient.exe"”

“Activation context generation failed for "C:\Program Files\Citrix\Provisioning Services\StatusTray.exe". Dependent Assembly Microsoft.VC90.CRT,processorArchitecture="amd64",publicKeyToken="1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b",type="win32",version="9.0.30729.6161" could not be found. Please use sxstrace.exe for detailed diagnosis.”

Environment

Resolution

Complete the following procedure to fix the issue:

Caution! Refer to the Disclaimer at the end of this article before using Registry Editor.
  1. Go to the following registry:

    • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services
    • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet2\services
  2. Delete the following key:

    Citrix.Xip.ClientService
  3. Restart the installation.


Problem Cause

This is a failure caused by a potential previous failed install or upgrade. During the upgrade, registry entries are made that negatively affect future installs as they are not removed during rollback of the previous install.
