Resolution

To resolve the issue, complete the following steps:

Note: Ensure that the policy is applied and the correct virtual machines are in the group receiving the policy as per Citrix best practices: Profile Management.

  1. Log on to the virtual machine and verify if the profile repository is available.

  2. If profile repository is not available, verify the settings. On the client machine, run the command rsop.msc and check Computer or Administrative Templates, as shown in the following screen shot.

  1. If Administrative Templates node is not listed, then run the command gpupdate /force.

If you receive an error, the Registry client-side extension is failed to read the registry.pol file from the Group Policy template location. The registry.pol file contains registry policy settings. This file might be missing, inaccessible, or corrupt. In this scenario. "Error 1096" appears, as shown in the following screen shot.

  1. Ensure that the registry.pol file exists in the location and has the same permissions as the gpt.ini file in the same Group Policy object (GPO).

  2. Ensure Sysvol replication is working on domain controllers.

  3. Delete or rename the GPO and recreate it at %WINDIR%\system32\GroupPolicy\Machine\registry.pol.

  4. After recreating the registry.pol file, run the command gpupdate /force.

  5. Run the command rsop.msc and verify if the UPM policy is applied and verify the Citrix entries.

Problem Cause

The UPM policy is not applied correctly on the XenDesktop virtual disk because the existing registry.pol file is corrupted.
