Description
This article contains information about troubleshooting the Provisioning Services (PVS) Server machine account passwords.
Instructions
Validate the following steps to configure the machine account passwords:
- Verify that Active Directory machine account password management is enabled on the virtual disk (vDisk) when the target device is starting.
PVS 6 | PVS 7 |
 | Farm> Stores> vdisk> Properties |
- Verify the Enable automatic password support is enabled on Server Properties in the PVS server console. Validate the value for Change computer account password every this number of days.
PVS 6 | PVS 7 |
 | Farm > Sites > Severs > Properties |
- Verify the Group Policy Object (GPO) in the Organization Unit (OU) where the target device is located for the policy Disable machine account password changes to be enabled. This option provides Provisioning Services (PVS) control over the target Active Directory machine account.

- Verify the value of the maximum password age set in GPO or through Local policy.

Note: It is best practice to ensure that the GPO or Security policy setting for that Organizational Units Maximum machine account password age setting is compared to the PVS Server Active Directory setting for Enable automatic password support setting. The PVS Server Active Directory setting for Enable automatic password support number of days must be less than the Group Policy Object or Security policy setting for that Organizational Units Maximum machine account password age setting.
- If the behavior appears, best practice is to shutdown the target device and reset the target device’s account password using PVS console.

Note: When configuring Windows 2008 or Vista target devices, it is highly recommended to apply Microsoft hotfix KB969837.
