Description

When a Citrix XenApp license expires, the XenApp server gets an error message from its Citrix License Server. For the XenApp server to work properly, a new license or an upgrade license needs to be installed on the Citrix License Server. However, if one only installs an upgrade license on the Citrix License Server without doing anything else on the XenApp server and the Citrix License Server, the following error message appears on the XenApp server.

“The licenses required by this edition of Citrix Presentation Server are not present on the license server…” . If no further action is taken, the error message can keep coming up at a certain interval such as 15 minutes.

This error could be seen on either XenApp 4.5 or XenApp 6.0 servers connected to Citrix License Server 11.6.1. However, there are no definite circumstances for this error to happen. It could be related to the specifics of Citrix license files being used.

Resolution

After the upgrade license is installed on the Citrix License Server, there are two ways to overcome the possible error message:

Reboot the Citrix XenApp server.

Or

In the admin console on the XenApp server, specify a random server name as the license server. Then after the console complains that the random server is not a Citrix License Server, input the correct Citrix License Server name.

Either of these two methods will effectively overcome the error.

If the issue seems to persist ensure you have the Hotfix Rollup Pack 6 for Citrix XenApp 6.5 for Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2.
