Recommended Install Order for Preparing Target Device Captured by Provisioning Server to Deploy vDisk

This article contains the recommended order to install or prepare a target device that must be captured by the Provisioning Services Sever to deploy a virtual disk.


Instructions

Complete the following tasks on the master target device you are preparing to capture the image of an operating system:

  1. Install Hypervisor tools such as Hyper-V, XenServer, or VMware and restart the target device.

  2. Install any operating system updates and/or application updates. Restart the target device if required.

  3. Type the Target Device into the Provisioning Server database by using an entry in the Provisioning Server Console under Device Collections. Include the correct MAC address of the master target device from which the virtual disk is captured.

  4. Install the Provisioning Services Target Device Software. Restart the target device.

  5. PXE boot to target device when you have started from the hard drive.

  6. Capture the virtual disk using Provisioning Server Image Builder or XenConvert.

  7. Shut down the target device the virtual disk is successfully captured.

  8. Set the target device to start from the network and virtual disk only.

  9. Start the virtual disk in Private Mode.

  10. Install the XenDesktop Virtual Desktop Agent software. Re​start when prompted.

  11. After the target device is started in private mode again, shut down the target device to ensure that no other “Found new hardware” messages appear.

  12. Move the virtual disk in Shared (Standard) mode for provisioning.
