Description

This article describes how to change Personal vDisk drive letter in XenDesktop.

Citrix Personal vDisks have two parts which by default equally sized; one part is not displayed in Windows Explorer and, since Version 5.6.7, does not require a drive letter.

The volume that stores user data (that is, C:\users) as well as personal vDisk log files gets the default drive letter “P:” However it can be changed during Catalog creation in the Desktop Studio wizard user interface (or Provisioning Services XenDesktop wizard user interface).

Instructions

To change this drive letter from the default V:\, you must change the registry in the base virtual machine before performing the personal vDisk inventory operation, and before creating any Catalogs from the base virtual machine image.

Citrix recommends making a snapshot of your base virtual machine before performing any registry modifications to ensure a backup copy is available in case an improper edit is made.

Important! Do not change the VHDMountPoint setting of a base virtual machine after Catalogs are created. The VHDMountPoint setting change can only be made once, before any Catalogs are created from the base virtual machine image. Changing VHDMountPoint after machines have been deployed will result in improper personal vDisk operation.

Caution! Refer to the Disclaimer at the end of this article before using Registry Editor.

Key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Citrix\personal vDisk\Config
Value: VHDMountPoint [REG_SZ]

Set this drive to the letter of your choice. Ensure that “:\” is appended to the end of your entry (example:  X:\).

Environment

Caution! Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that might require you to reinstall your operating system. Citrix cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the incorrect use of Registry Editor can be solved. Use Registry Editor at your own risk. Be sure to back up the registry before you edit it.
