This article describes how to create a XenDesktop site.


Instructions

  1. Connect and authenticate to the server selected to run the Desktop Controller.

    Note: If using a service account to install the Desktop Controller, ensure that the user account has elevated privileges. Consult with Active Directory Administrators to ensure compliance with specific enterprise account standards.

  2. Start Desktop Studio from the Start menu. Desktop Studio should appear under Start > All Programs > Citrix> Desktop Studio, as displayed in the following screen shot:

  3. From Desktop Studio, select Desktop deployment, as displayed in the following screen shot:

  4. Name the XenDesktop Site per enterprise standards:

     Note: If using XenDesktop 5.6, you must name the XenDesktop Site per enterprise standards:

  5. In Database Configuration, type the name of the SQL server installed earlier.

  6. In the Database name field, type the name of the database.

    In this scenario, leave the pre-populated default Database name as it is, so that the wizard can create the database.

    Note: To validate connectivity to the SQL Server, use the Test Connection button. This test most likely generates an error as the database for XenDesktop has not yet been created. However, connectivity to the SQL database validates successfully. It is possible to create a database prior to installing a XenDesktop site, however, this step is beyond the scope of this article.   7. Click Next to continue.

  8. Provide Citrix License server information (installed earlier) and click Connect. The wizard presents the license types available on the licensing server. Select the appropriate option for this installation and click Next.

  1. Configure the Host hypervisor per specific enterprise standards.

    Note: If using XenDesktop 5.6, then the preceding step is listed as Connection.

  2. Ensure that a Host Address preceded by http, Username, and Password are provided.

  3. Name the Host connection.

  4. Select Use XenDesktop to create virtual machines.

  5. Click Next to continue.

  6. Specify the resources for the virtual machines to use in this installation.

  7. Click Add to configure where to store virtual machines.

  8. Provide a Name for the storage details.

  9. Select the Storage type. This scenario uses an iSCSI mount.

  10. Select a Guest network for the virtual machines.

  11. Validate the settings for virtual machine resources:

    Note: If using XenDesktop 5.6, you must select the Storage for the virtual machines and for the personal vDisk.

  12. Click Next to continue.

  13. Review the installation Summary for accuracy.

  14. Click Finish to complete the site creation.
