This article provides information on the Virtual Desktop Configuration options available during installation of the Virtual Desktop Agent.

Virtual Desktop Configuration

When running the setup wizard for the XenDesktop VDA, you are presented with options for Virtual Desktop Configuration, as displayed in the following screen shot:

XenDesktop Controller Communications

If the Windows Firewall is being used, this option creates the following firewall exceptions to allow communications with the VDA and the following ports are opened:

• 80 - Controller Registration Port

• 1494 - HDX Port

• 2598 - Session Reliability

This option is not available if the Windows Firewall has been disabled.

Optimize XenDesktop Performance

This option runs the TargetOSOptimizer tool to improve the performance of the operating system for use as a virtual desktop. Refer to CTX125874 - How to Optimize XenDesktop Machines for more information.

User Desktop Shadowing

This option enables Windows Remote Assistance for use with the user shadowing feature of Desktop Director. Refer to CTX127388 - How to Enable Remote Assistance for Desktop Director for more information.

Real Time Monitoring

This option enables and configures Windows Remote Management for use with Desktop Director. Refer to  CTX125243 - Enabling WinRM for Desktop Director for more information.

Use Real-time Transport for Audio

This option must be selected if Voice-over-IP is widely used in your network. It reduces latency and improves audio resilience over lossy networks. Selecting this option allows audio data to be transmitted using RTP over UDP transport.
