Description

Client printers fail to auto-create during a user logon. An Event ID 1116 is captured in the Event logs from the source of MetaFrame Events. The event contains the following:

“Reason: AddPrinter() failed with status 0x6BE.
Converting the hexadecimal 6BE to decimal and using net helpmsg provides the following information:
The remote procedure call (RPC) failed.”

Resolution

To resolve the issue, download a newer version of the HP printer driver that is compatible with Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008.
Click here to download.
Note: Before the new HP printer driver is installed, ensure that the version of the HPBmini.dll file is 1.0.0.16, 1.0.0.18, or  later. Extract the driver to a temporary folder and verify the version of the HPBmini.dllfile.

Problem Cause

The issue occurs because the RPC tries to reuse a TCP connection which the server already requested to close. The server uses ACK/RST packet to respond and the 0x6BE exception occurs on the client computer.
As described in Microsoft article 946394, the issue can also occur because of the Hewlett-Packard (HP) print driver that uses HPBmini.dll ("HP Mini Installer") 1.0.0.13 or earlier versions.
