Symptoms

You cannot create a dependent inter-isolation communication profile of Microsoft Office with Office Communicator as a linked profile. You receive the following error message:

"Error 1406: Setup cannot write value to the registry key ..."

Note: This issue is only seen on 64-bit clients.

Cause

The Office suite and Office Communicator use components with the same Globally Unique Identifiers (GUIDs) and the short file names of the installed locations are the same. This is true for all Office and Office-related products such as Project and Visio.

Resolution

Profile the Office suite and Office Communicator using the same profile.
