Summary

This document describes how to use Citrix Diagnostic Facility (CDF) and the Access Management Console to trace issues.

Starting the Trace

    1. Open the Access Management Console.

    2. Locate the Diagnose Problems links.

    A. Expand the Servers node and choose the server to trace.

    B. Click Diagnose Problems and then Start Trace Session(s).

    3. Choose Create new trace settings and click Next.

Note: You can send files containing all the modules to trace. If you do so, you can then choose to Use an existing settings file or Use a settings file as a template.

    4. Select the log file settings you want (Sequential or Circular) and click Add to add the different modules to trace.

Sequential will continue to grow until stopped, Circular will grow only to the maximum size defined and will begin to overwrite the oldest entries.

    5. Select the modules you want to trace.

    6. Select the level of data to record (maximum 0xFFFFFF) and the level of details (maximum 16). Click OK.

    7. When the modules are listed, click Next.

Note: You can choose to export the settings file so you can use it again later.

    8. Click Finish. The trace is now listed as running.

    9. Reproduce the problem.

Stopping the Trace

    1. In the Trace Session(s) dialog box, click Stop Trace Session(s). The Stop Trace Session? dialog box appears.

    2. Click Stop and Copy.

The trace disappears from the Stop Trace Session? dialog box.

Note: If you use a file server to store the trace log, depending on the trace’s size, you may want to use the Stop Only option to avoid and then to increase the network usage during the day.

Locating the Trace You Created

By default, the trace is created in <%userprofile%>\Local Settings\Application Data\Citrix\cdfData\<sevrvername>\.

The trace will have an .et_ extension.

You can modify this location by using the Diagnostic Facility node and clicking Set Packaging Details.

Packaging the Trace

Before sending the trace to Support, you can create a package (useful if several trace logs were created).

    1. Select the Diagnose Problems links.

Expand the Servers node, choose the server to trace, click the Diagnose Problems link, then Package Collected Information.

    2. Enter the Support Number (this number will be used as the package name) and click Next.

    3. Select the trace(s) and/or log(s) created to package and click Next.

    4. Select the method to use to send the package and click Finish.

Note: A .cab file is created in the location specified in the Diagnostic facility node (see locating the trace created). The default FTP server information is also set using the Diagnostic facility node.
