Error: The System Could not Log You On. You have Reached Your License Logon Limit ... when Connecting to a Server Running MetaFrame 1.8 or Later

Symptoms

You receive the following error message:

"The System could not log you on. You have reached your license logon limit"

Troubleshooting Steps for MetaFrame XPx

1. Open the Citrix Management Console.

2. Select License and then the License Number tab. The following license description produces the error "The system has reached its licensed logon limit:"

3. Verify the Feature Release Level setting and either ensure the proper Feature Release server and connection licenses are installed or change the server Feature Release license level to “none”.

4. From the MetaFrame XP Feature Release 2 readme:

"SERVER AND DATA STORE CONNECTIVITY

If a MetaFrame XP 1.0 server and the data store lose connectivity before at least one ICA session is connected to the MetaFrame XP 1.0 server, the server cannot process any ICA connection requests and returns a "system has reached its licensed logon limit" error. To correct this problem, restore connectivity between the MetaFrame XP 1.0 server and the data store. To prevent this problem from occurring, make sure that at least one ICA connection has been made to each MetaFrame XP 1.0 server when data store connectivity is available."

MetaFrame XPx Connection Migration License Pack

To resolve this issue, add the appropriate WinFrame 1.x and/or MetaFrame 1.x base and/or user licenses within the Citrix Management Console.

If this issue is still not resolved, the local host cache and its data store are corrupt, rebuild the local host cache. Instructions about how to are in CTX759510 - Function of the Local Host Cache on MetaFrame XP.

Troubleshooting Steps for MetaFrame 1.8 and later

1. From the Licenses tab of Citrix Server Administration, verify that your server has sufficient Citrix licenses.

2. Verify that your server has enough Microsoft Client Access licenses in both License Manager and in Terminal Server License Manager.

3. Check in User Manager for Domains that you have enough Anonymous user accounts for the connections needed. You may have more anonymous users trying to connect than the number of anonymous accounts created in User Manager. See CTX116725 – Error: The system has reached its licensed logon limit. Please try again later.

4. If MetaFrame 1.8 Service Pack 2 is installed, ensure that the client encryption level matches the level of the server or add the Feature Release 1 License.

5. If MetaFrame 1.8 is installed in a single server environment, unpool all of the licenses. There is no reason to pool licenses in a single server environment.
