Symptoms or Error

The IMA Service fails to start and the following error message appears:

“Failed to load plugin C:\Program Files\Citrix\System32\Citrix\IMA\Subsystems\RADESessionSs.dll with error IMA_RESULT_FAILURE.”

Error 2147483647 occurs when trying to restart the server.
 
When trying to start the IMA service, the following error message appears:

Opening the Event Viewer of the affected server shows this event on the System Log:

“Failed to load plugin C:\Prgoram Files (x86)\Citrix\System32\Citrix\IMA\Subsystems\RADESessionsSs.dll with error IMA_RESULT_FAILURE”

Normally, this type of error is resolved when running the dsmaint recreaterade command, but when trying to run this command there is no result to notify the user if the command was successful.

Solution

Complete the following steps to resolve the issue:

  1. Open the RadeOffline.dsn file with Notepad, or any other text editor, where it is located at C:\Program Files (x86)\Citrix\Independent Management Architecture\
     RadeOffline.dsn file
    Note: In most cases, the file is empty if the connection string is wrong.

  1. Verify that the format of the information matches the screen shown in the following screen shot. Verify that the path is the same on the server and, if not, change the file to match.

  1. Open a command prompt and run dsmaint recreaterade. The result shown in the following screen shot appears.

  1. Start the Citrix IMA Service.

This error is common if the server has a problem connecting to the radeoffline.mdb, most often because of a corrupted dsn file pointing to this data source.
