Citrix Online Plug-in 11.2 fails unattended installation if launched from a service account.

The unattended installation of the Citrix Online Plug-in 11.2 only works if initiated from the desktop by an administrator (or a user with appropriate rights). The following example is one method of initiating the unattended installation from the desktop:

"C:\CitrixOnlinePluginFull.exe" /silent ADDLOCAL="ICA_Client,PN_Agent,SSON,Flash,USB,DesktopViewer" SERVER_LOCATION="https://xxxx/config.xml" ENABLE_SSON="Yes" INSTALLDIR="C:\Program Files\Citrix\ICA Client" /noreboot

The failure of the unattended installation occurs if the Online Plug-in installer is initiated from a service such as a scheduled task where the user is a service account rather than a logged in desktop.

A problem in the ICAWebWrapper.msi, which is part of the CitrixOnlinePluginFull.exe, prevents the installation from finishing, to overcome the service account install scenario.

The following process is a workaround for this installation issue:

  1. Install the Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable Package SP1 located at:
  2. Install CitrixOnlinePluginFull.exe using the transform provided in the zip file attached to this article. Use the same command-line options you would normally use when performing an unattended installation, but include the TRANSFORMS variable to point to the full path to the transform. The following is an example of this command:
    "C:\CitrixOnlinePluginFull.exe" /silent SERVER_LOCATION="https://xxxx/config.xml" TRANSFORMS=C:\transform_notstrict.mst /noreboot
  3. Run what would have been the custom action post-install in the batch file. This allows the registration of wfcrun32.exe outside of the install context and it correctly attaches to the necessary VC Redistributable files. The command is:
    "C:\Program Files\Citrix\ICA Client\wfcrun32.exe" /regserver

: On 64-bit systems “Program Files“ is located at - “Program Files (x86)”.
