Summary
In certain satellite based environments, it has been found the WANScaler’s options are stripped, causing a failure in accelerated connections. If this issue is encountered, it is recommended to have the satellite provider disable their optimization features.
Background
WANScaler TCP options operate in the range of 24-31 (decimal). If these appended options are not communicated between partner WANScalers during the initial communication of the connection, then the acceleration attempt fails.
In one particular instance, the satellite modem was stripping WANScaler TCP options and performing IP spoofing locally. By disabling the optimization at the modem, the WANScaler was able to continue acceleration without issue. The performance penalty that was lost with disabling the modems optimization was compensated by the WANScaler’s ability to accelerate the data.
