This Release Preview requires product software and a license file that you download from http://www.citrix.com/English/SS/downloads/downloads.asp?dID=36239. The license file provides licenses for 99 concurrent users to access XenApp server-side and client-side virtualization services. You must allocate all 99 licenses to a single license file. The licenses expire on November 15, 2008.
For more information about obtaining this license, see Getting Started with Citrix XenApp 5.0.
To access other licensing documentation, go to http://support.citrix.com/licensing/. The documentation appears in the Top Licensing Resources section.
For this early release, Citrix provides an online user forum for technical support. This forum can be accessed at http://support.citrix.com/forums/forum.jspa?forumID=182. The Support page includes links to downloads, the Citrix Knowledge Center, Citrix Consulting Services, and other useful support pages.
Caution! Some fixes require you to edit the registry. Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Citrix cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the incorrect use of Registry Editor can be solved. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.
The following is a list of known issues in this early release. Read it carefully before installing the product.
Review the documents listed in the Finding Documentation section, located on the support Web site, before starting your installation. They include the pre-installation requirements, known issues, and installation procedures for XenApp 5.0 and components.
Before starting an installation, install Sun Microsystems J# 2.0 SE runtime installer and Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 1.5.0_11 (uninstall any other version). To locate this version of the JRE, go to https://cds.sun.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/WFS/CDS-CDS_Developer-Site/en_US/-/USD/ViewProductDetail-Start?ProductRef=jre-1.5.0_11-oth-JPR@CDS-CDS_Developer.
As the installation progresses, multiple instances of Windows Security dialog boxes require you to manually select Yes to the message "Would you like to install this device software?" and indicating "Citrix Systems." [#161736]
Note that Citrix is working with Microsoft to resolve this issue to include signed drivers for the final release.
To run Citrix-provided and customer-produced Health Monitoring & Recovery tests, disable the User Account Control (UAC) on Windows Server 2008 platforms (the UAC is enabled by default). If it is enabled, any browsing of the Healthmon subdirectories changes permissions adversely and the service denies test execution. Likewise, any manual permission changes to these directories can have the same adverse effect.
If the UAC is enabled, as a workaround, for each subdirectory, remove any permissions other than the built-in Administrators group, Local Service, and Network Service. Then restart the affected service. [#175884]
If the Access Management Console, when installed on a server running Windows Server 2008 64-bit Edition and Web Interface, fails immediately after starting, repair Microsoft Visual J# 2.0 Redistributable Package on the server and then restart the console. [#183858]
Mixed farms are not supported in this Release Preview. [#187244]

For a client device to launch a Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) connection to a Citrix published application through Web Interface, you must change the default value of a Microsoft Terminal Server setting.
To do this, on the XenApp server, click Start > Administrative Tools, and select the Terminal Services folder. Click TS RemoteApp Manager, and in the dialog box, from the Action menu, select Terminal Server Settings. From the Terminal Server tab, in the Access to unlisted programs section, click the button to Allow users to start both listed and unlisted programs on initial connection. [#168433]
[Back to installation issues contents]
Uninstall all previous versions of the Presentation Server Clients, including the Streaming Clients, and then install only the clients included with this release. For this Release Preview, previously released clients cannot connect to Windows Server 2008. [#163296]
Citrix Applications or Program Neighborhood is not uninstalled properly when either is the only client selected in the Modify option of the Delivery Clients (SV) installation package created using an administrative installation. As a workaround, uninstall all of the Delivery Clients (SV) and reinstall the desired client features. [#175591]
The version number for various components are sometimes incorrect for this Release Preview. Some are shown as 5258.1, but the actual version is 5252.1. [#188932]
[Back to installation issues contents]
When typing an installation path for the license server, use ASCII characters only; otherwise, the License Management Console may not launch. [#173746]
After installing the Citrix License Server on a Windows Server 2008 cluster, the cluster resources are not visible in the Cluster Manager user interface. To view the status of the services, use the cluster resource tools from a command prompt. [#171118]
To install Citrix Licensing using Active Directory, you must apply the ActiveDirectoryLicensingInstallSupport.mst transform file. [#76996]
During the installation of the Citrix License Server Version 11.5, ensure that you enter the port numbers correctly within the displayed range. If you append any additional characters to the port number or enter anything other than numerical characters, the install will continue, the license files will be updated with the incorrect port number, and the license server cannot communicate. [#184329]
Installing the English version of the Citrix License Server Version 11.5 on a Spanish 64-bit operating system fails. Contact customer support. [#187188]
When configuring the product-side setting for the license server name, do not use localhost. Use the host name, IP address, or FQDN instead. [#165986]
After the licensing components are installed and the Citrix Licensing service restarts, two copies of the license server (lmgrd.exe) are launched. This occurs with license server Versions 11.1, 11.3, and 11.5. This is "as designed." Two lmgrd.exe processes exist during normal execution. [#182151]
Before you perform an unattended installation of Citrix Licensing, you must install the JRE version supported by the licensing components (1.5.0_11).
To locate this version of the JRE, go to https://cds.sun.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/WFS/CDS-CDS_Developer-Site/en_US/-/USD/ViewProductDetail-Start?ProductRef=jre-1.5.0_11-oth-JPR@CDS-CDS_Developer
To install the JRE from the command line, type:
JRE 1_5_0_11: jre-1_5_0_11-windows-i586-p.exe /lang=1033 /v"/qn REBOOT=ReallySuppress REBOOTPROMPT=Suppress ADDLOCAL=ALL WEBSTARTICON=0 AUTOUPDATECHECK=0 IEXPLORER=1 MOZILLA=1" [#83379, 150474]

For this Release Preview, the license server is not supported on Microsoft Windows 2000 platforms.
For the Release Preview, installing Citrix Licensing on Windows Server 2008 does not open inbound ports through Windows Firewall; therefore, XenApp servers cannot find the license server. To solve this problem, create two inbound port rules on the server on which you have installed Citrix Licensing.
To create specific inbound port rules in Windows Firewall:
The new port rules are configured. [#189977]

This section includes information for the following products:
The Microsoft Terminal Services Group Policy setting to "Allow reconnection from original client only" is not supported. If enabled, users can reconnect from another computer or client. This is a third-party issue and there is no workaround. [#176130]
Reconnecting to a disconnected ICA desktop session either from the server locally or through Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) fails with an error message that the target session is incompatible with the current session. Local desktop and RDP connections also fail when the ICA desktop session is active and the server is set to restrict users to a single session. In general, you cannot convert or promote any existing ICA desktop session to a session started from the server locally or RDP because of cross-protocol compatibility issues.
As a workaround, either the user or administrator should log off from the previous ICA session. To do this, users can reconnect to the ICA session and log off, or the administrator can log off the session for them. Then users can then log on to a new session from the desktop or RDP. [#181473]
Do not use SpeedScreen Flash Acceleration in 16-color mode. A third-party issue causes Microsoft Internet Explorer 7.0 to fail. [#164906]
The ICA Settings tab of TS Config utility is visible only on a server that has XenApp installed. [#170346]
To view and manage user print queues on Windows Server 2008, use the Windows Print Services snap-in.
To set it up:
When printing using the XenApp XPS Universal Print Driver, selecting the landscape orientation fails and documents always print with the portrait orientation. This is a third-party issue. As a workaround, select the Preview option first. Then print from Internet Explorer, and the file prints as expected. [#185067]
In some Windows Vista client environments, performing operations on a file or folder on a mapped drive might result in the following error: "Insufficient system resources exist to complete the requested service." [#187521]
As a workaround, follow these steps:
When you launch the connection again, the error does not appear.
This Release Preview does not support Microsoft Office Document Scanning software. To allow scanning, use another TWAIN-compatible scanning program. [#188256]
The options to detect proxy and Use Web browser proxy settings automatically under the Program Neighborhood > Custom Connection Settings > Firewall Settings do not work properly. If you want to use proxy settings, select the SOCKS or Secure (HTTPS) setting in the Firewall Settings dialog box. [#174153]
Because of Windows Vista security enhancements, when users on Vista client computers log on to Web Interface sites using smart cards and PINs, they are prompted again for their credentials (PINs) when launching an application. [#177738]
When you use a Client Printer policy to enable auto-creating all client printers and you launch a published application with the client, the print service might prevent the application from starting or might not properly map the printers. Use the following workaround before the client connects.
When Windows Vista users access the Microsoft Office 2007 suite using the Citrix Delivery Client (SV), desktop icons for Excel and Word documents do not include XenApp branding if viewed as medium or larger icons. [#187650]
When working with multiple seamless applications, users may not be able to change the focus from one application to another by simply clicking inside the application window. Instead, click the application title bar to change the focus. [#188254]
After leaving the Access Management Console idle on Windows Server 2008 64-bit Edition for two hours or more, the console can become unresponsive. Close and restart the console. If the console remains unresponsive after restarting, restart the server. [#188571]
Printers added to the Session printers policy rule do not appear in the session if users reconnect to the same session. To see new printers added to a Session printers policy rule, users must log off from their existing session and start a new session. [#181842]
Users logging on to Web Interface using pass-through authentication are prompted to enter their credentials when Web Interface session settings are configured to use a window display size other than Automatic. Automatic is the default window size display, but if users modify this setting, they can reset it to Automatic by using the Preferences > Session Settings menu sequence, and under Display, selecting Automatic as the Window size. The next time users authenticate to Web Interface, pass-through authentication works as designed. [#188143]
For this release preview, client drive mapping does not support mapping of remote network drives at log-on. Note that local client drives are mapped automatically to the floppy disk drive, CD-Rom drive, and local hard drives. [#186955]
If the Access Management Console fails during discovery, restart your computer and rerun discovery, more than one time if needed. If this fails to resolve the problem, try running the Access Management Console remotely. [#188236]
Users of Philips SpeechMike USB devices cannot play back their recordings when accessing the SpeechMike Test Recorder application as a published application. Although the audio is recorded, users must save the audio files, end their current ICA session, and then play back the audio files in a separate ICA session. This limitation occurs when the client computer is running Windows XP or Windows Vista and the SpeechMike device is connected to the client computer through a USB port. Serial port Philips SpeechMike devices do not exhibit this limitation. [#177437]
If your XenApp servers use both Kerberos and Microsoft Active Directory Federated Systems (ADFS), when an end-user launches a published application, it may fail with the following error: "The format of the specified domain name is invalid." To avoid this third-party issue, configure servers for full delegation, or when configuring constrained delegation, choose "Trust this computer for delegation to the specified services only" and "Use any authentication protocol." [#171953]
Content Redirection enabled for server-to-client on the farm or server fails to redirect hyperlinks to the Web browser on the local client device. Instead, when users click a hyperlink, it launches the URL on the server. There is no workaround for this issue. [#188725]
For the Platinum Edition, when installing Password Manager as the Single Sign-on component of XenApp, you must first install the following files on the computers running the Password Manager Console, Service, and agent software. The files are available from the XenApp installation media. (#189353)
32-bit computers:
\Administration\Access Management Console\Setup\vs_piaredist.exe
\Support\vcredist\vcredist_x86.exe
64-bit computers:
\Administration\Access Management Console\Setup\vs_piaredist.exe
\Support\vcredist\vcredist_x86.exe
\Support\vcredist\vcredist_x64.exe
The Access Management Console may unexpectedly exit if you run the discovery process with the Password Manager extension when the Password Manager central store was not created successfully. To avoid this problem, either create the central store prior to running the discovery process (refer to the Citrix Password Manager Installation Guide), or run discovery without including the Password Manager extension (from the Select Product or Components page of the Discovery wizard, clear the Password Manager Console option). [#189479]

This Release Preview supports application streaming of Microsoft Office 2007 on Windows Server 2008 and provides application compatibility improvements in the updated Delivery Client (CV), the new name for the Streaming Client, and Streaming Profiler, as well as the updated Citrix Applications, the new name for Program Neighborhood Agent.
The Application Streaming feature no longer supports Microsoft Windows 2000 platforms or Office 2000 applications.
To stream applications to a Windows Server 2008 platform using an existing application profile, make sure it includes a target created on and for Windows Server 2008. To do this, install the Streaming Profiler included in this release, open the existing profile, and add a new target for Windows Server 2008.
The list of Offline Access applications in Citrix Applications sometimes does not display all the applications configured for offline access. This is an intermittent issue in this Release Preview. [#189028, 185919]
There are two possible workarounds, depending on your use case:
For a simple profile with no inter-isolation communication, avoid launching the applications in the profile simultaneously because some of the applications may not show in the list. If at first only the first application shows, launch successive applications again and ensure that they appear in the Offline Access dialog box before disconnecting from the network.
For a profile with inter-isolation communication, publish the applications individually from the simple profiles, which will be used later as subprofiles for an aggregated profile. Use the following steps:
When streaming applications profiled with enhanced security, users might see a warning or error message. For example, this occurs when streaming Microsoft Outlook 2007 to Vista and Windows Server 2008 platforms (32-bit or 64-bit) for the first time, when streaming OneNote 2007 and attempting to write with the pen in the first Notebook, or when streaming Microsoft Access 2007 to Vista platforms (32-bit or 64-bit) for the first time and attempting to start a pivot chart view of database tables.
In most cases, when users clear the error message, the application runs normally. You can also check the Event Viewer log on the user computer for more information about the profiled application. You may or may not need to reprofile the application. [#172569, 175513, 175464]
When streaming OneNote 2007, the audio recording feature fails. If started, an incorrect error message states that the recycle bin is corrupted and the feature stops. Users can disregard this message. The recycle bin is neither corrupted nor related to the OneNote feature. [#172666]
Profiling Microsoft Input Method Editor (IME), which is included with Microsoft Office, is not supported. You can create a profile for Microsoft Office that includes the IME without errors, but the IME is disabled and cannot be launched. To prevent users from attempting to launch the IME, exclude it when profiling Microsoft Office. [#180338]
If users experience a network disconnection while streaming applications to client devices, they might not be able to resume streaming the applications when the network connection is restored. If this occurs, an error message appears directing users to contact the administrator. To fix this issue, restart the Citrix Streaming Service and ask the user to start the streamed application again. [#186906]
When users who installed earlier versions of the Delivery Client (CV), which stands for client-side virtualization (the new name for the Streaming Client) log on to XenApp Web sites, they are not automatically offered an upgrade to the new version of the client included with this release, even if the XenApp Web site is configured to offer client upgrades. Users who do not have the Delivery Client (CV) can still download and install the client if the XenApp Web site is configured to offer client downloads. [#188469]
To provide users who have earlier versions of the Delivery Client (CV) with the opportunity to upgrade their client when they log on to a XenApp Web site, edit the configuration file for the site as follows:
While creating or updating a Windows 64-bit platform target using the Streaming Profiler, only one Office 2007 or 2003 product can be included in the target. Including multiple Office products in those target operating systems is not supported in this Release Preview. Attempting to do so causes the profiler to fail. [#188136]
Inter-isolation communication (a new feature in this release) has the following limitations for this Release Preivew:
When Symantec antivirus is running, streaming EasyCall from a profile created for inter-isolation communication fails. This issue does not occur when running other anti-virus software. [#186819]
To stream Office 2007 from an associated (minimal) profile created for inter-isolation communication, make sure Office 2007 is the first subprofile at the top of the list, meaning it has the highest priority. Adding Office with a lower priority is not supported. [#185285]
After creating a linked profile for inter-isolation communication, adding or deleting subprofiles using the profile properties is not supported. There is no workaround for this issue. [#188911]
Offline access is supported for linked profiles that contain other existing profiles (called associated or minimal profiles), but not for linked profiles that contain new applications (called a dependent profile) as well as other existing profiles. However, offline-enabled applications in dependent profiles launch successfully from Web Interface sites. [#187763]
Streaming Office Communicator 2007 on Windows Vista with Service Pack 1 is not supported in this Release Preview. [#187351]
Streaming applications over HTTP is supported on Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) Web servers only. [#188900]
In some cases, the launch dialog boxes (such as Start Application and Preparing Application) for applications streamed to Vista platforms appear in the background the first time users run them. This issue occurs when the applications are configured for offline access. [#183910]
To create a profile of Visio 2003 and its Service Pack 3, you must use the .msi installer for Visio 2003. Attempting to use the .exe installer for Visio has inconsistent results after installing the service pack and the profile might fail. [#188933]
When a Microsoft Office 2003 or Office 2007 profile is updated, the version number of the profile changes. Users who were running offline applications using the old version of the profile might see a warning that a new version of the application is being downloaded. This notice does not disappear, even after the download is complete. Users can continue to use the older application and ignore the warning. As a workaround, you can clear the offline cache on the client device. [#180216]
If Microsoft Excel and Word 2007 are included in a profile and you update the profile by manually adding a single executable file such as notepad.exe, Excel fails to launch and an error message appears on the client device indicating that a .DLL file is missing or corrupted. This issue occurs on Windows 64-bit platforms, such as XP and Vista. There is no workaround for this issue. [#188241]
When profiles are updated, users are not consistently informed that a newer version of their application is being downloaded and will be available the next time they start the application. [#188980]
On Windows XP platforms, when configuring the caching option for applications with offline access, you must use the "Cache application at launch time" option. The "Pre-cache application at login" option is not supported. [#189216]
While using radecache to clear the cache, you might see an error message that the application is in use (even after the application is closed). This message appears because background operations are still being performed on the profile. If this occurs, wait up to 20 minutes and retry the command. [#177650]
Performing a "Save As" or editing the Enhanced or Relaxed Security property of a profile with 32-bit and 64-bit targets is supported on a 32-bit platform only. For all other updates to targets in the profile, perform the updates on the same platform as the targets. [#185848]
When attempting to edit a Sharepoint document from Internet Explorer running within isolation, the streamed version of the application does not launch and users see an error message saying there is no Sharepoint compatible application to perform this operation . This issue occurs because the XenApp file type associations do not apply to applications that are not streamed. [#173611]
To prevent this issue, create a file type association (FTA) for the document type to point to the application in the isolation environment. To do this, create a pre-launch script that resets the default FTA for the application, using the command:
reg add HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\
For example, the following command resets the FTA for Word 2007:
reg add HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\docx /f /ve /t REG_SZ /d Word.Document.12
[Back to known issues contents]
If the Access Management Console discovery task is configured to contact a configuration server for centrally configured sites, which are deprecated in this release of the Web Interface, restarting the Independent Management Architecture (IMA) service on the configuration server causes discovery to fail with a Remote Procedure Call (RPC) error. To avoid this problem, ensure that you manually stop the ConfigMgrSvr.exe process on the centralized configuration server whenever you restart the IMA service. [#188018]
Versions of Program Neighborhood prior to Version 11.0 cannot enumerate published applications on XenApp 5.0 for Windows Server 2008 when seven or more published applications are available for a user.
To prevent this problem, you need to add a new registry key on the server running the Citrix XML Service:
Users who log on to a site configured for pass-through with smart card authentication using explicit credentials are presented with a Welcome to Windows dialog box when launching applications. To cancel this dialog box, users must press right-ALT (ALT GR) + DELETE. To prevent this problem, create separate sites for users logging on with smart cards and users logging on with explicit credentials. [#144611]
In some cases, when a client is launched, the .ica file is saved as a plain text file on the end-user hard drive. However, this does not prevent the client from launching successfully. [#146110]
An error message appears when attempting to connect using deprecated clients. This release of the Web Interface does not support the use of clients prior to Version 6.20. When attempting to connect to a remote application with an earlier client, you may encounter the error "50: Cannot connect to server." The recommended solution is simply to upgrade to the latest versions of the clients.
However, if this is not possible, the error can be prevented by editing the template .ica files as follows:
The Web Interface may offer to install or upgrade the native client on devices running Windows XP Embedded; however, the installation will fail. You can avoid this issue by manually installing the latest version of the native client on the embedded device. If this is not possible, you can use the Access Management Console to stop these installation captions from appearing:
[Back to known issues contents]
Pass-through authentication is not supported for published desktops. [#176530]
When smart card users on Windows XP client devices launch Citrix Applications or refresh applications, they are prompted for credentials even if pass-through authentication is enabled on the Citrix Applications site and the client. [ #188898]
When users on Windows Vista client devices launch Citrix Applications or refresh applications, they might be prompted for credentials even if pass-through authentication is enabled on the Citrix Applications site and the client. [#183884]
Due to a Microsoft change, the Client for Windows CE WBT, Version 10.x fails when the user tries to access published applications on a 32-bit or 64-bit XenApp server. [#177743]
When Special Folder Redirection is enabled on the client and on the XenApp Web site, the Desktop and Documents folders should be mapped to the client device, but you might see two Desktop and Documents folders (server and client) in Windows Explorer. When launching a published desktop, you might see two Documents folders and one Desktop folder. [#189351]
[Back to known issues contents]
When typing an installation path for the license server, use ASCII characters only; otherwise, the License Management Console may not launch. [#173746, 180337]
Netscape is no longer supported for use with the License Management Console.
After using the License Management Console to copy the Beta license to the license server, the license does not appear in the License Management Console. Although the license does not appear, the license is copied successfully but is not recognized by the license server. Restart the Citrix License Management Console and the Citrix Licensing services to reread the file. [#175275]
If you are running an English version of a Windows operating system with a Japanese, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, or Korean supplemental language pack installed, you cannot log on to the License Management Console using a user name with multibyte characters. [#82831]
When generating reports, make sure you click the Cancel button to close the License Management Console. If you do not click Cancel, reports continue running. To stop reports from generating after closing the console, restart the Citrix License Management Console service. [#86689]
Generating product reports with the Percent Installed Licenses data type causes the reporting engine to lock. The License Management Console continues operating after the reporting engine locks. However, you must restart the Citrix License Management Console service before you can generate any further reports. [#107210]
In the Options file, the GROUPCASEINSENSITIVE command (Options file) is not supported.
The following message appears in the lmgrd_debug log:
"Non-activation-capable daemon activation invoked with non-client-request event type." You can ignore this message.
[Back to known issues contents]
On the Windows Server 2003 platform, an application error appears when you attempt to shut down the license server. Ignore this message or stop the Citrix Licensing service before you shut down the license server. [175449]
The following message appears in the Event Log Viewer: "(1224) Client/server comm version mismatch. The client and server programs are running potentially incompatible versions of FLEXnet comm software. This is an informational message indicating that an older version of the Citrix product is communicating with a newer version of the Citrix License Server." Ignore this message.
More than one Citrix startup license can be checked out by one Citrix product from a particular (Citrix) server. This may be caused by a problem with the Citrix.startup.lic license file. See article CTX113090 in the Citrix Knowledge Center for a new Citrix.startup.lic file and instructions for installing the new file.
